BECKETT, Samuel (1906-1989). Nouvelles et Textes Pour Rien. Paris: Les Éditions de Minuit, 1958.
Inscribed by Beckett to Alberto Giacometti: a major presentation copy of the first illustrated edition. It is further inscribed by the artist Avigdor Arikha (1929-2010), who illustrated this edition. One of 2000 copies printed on velin, this copy marked ‘H.C’ (Hors Commerce). Nouvelles et Textes Pour Rien gathers three of Beckett’s short stories and a further thirteen short prose pieces. A fine copy linking two of the 20th century’s most significant artistic figures.
Octavo. Frontispiece and 5 illustrations after Avigdor Arikha. Original white card wrappers lettered in black and with illustration after Avigdor Arikha to upper wrapper, edges uncut; custom black cloth chemise and slipcase. Provenance: Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966; inscriptions on the title from the author, ‘Pour Alberto Giacometti son ami et admirateur Samuel Beckett, Paris Septembre 1958’, and the illustrator, ‘Pour Alberto Giacometti avec l’admiration de Arikha’).
