Lot 2217 Rectangular plate with a rooster and two hens
Japan. Meiji Period. Designers: Watanabe Page or Shôtei (1851-1918).

Copper with muses shippô (without webs) and yusen shippô. Edge with painted copper. The cock and both hens, in white, structured by fine gradations of grey, on a
gray Fund. In contrast, the comb and wattles of the birds in bright shades of red. Only
in this area, the artisans used webs of very fine, gold-plated Metal. 23 x 16.8 cm, height 0.8 cm. Front signature and victory length: Page (designer). Back of hide tones scattered cherry blossoms in brown. In the centre in silver the sakigake seal of the workshop of Namikawa Sôsuke. Condition A/B. enclosed: the Japanese catalog of the Work of Namikawa Sôsuke with photos, descriptions and comments. Japanese watoshi-binding.
Provenance:
According to the previous owner of this plate was exhibited at the world exhibition in 1902 in Paris.
