Diese Jade wird in dem Buch von FILIPPO SALVIATI: “THE MYSTERIOUS STONE: Chinese Jades from the Neolithic to the Han in private collections” publiziert (Erscheinungstermin Frühjahr 2017).
Notes by Prof. Salviati: This finely carved ornament is carved is shaped as two concentric rings held together by three small, equally spaced ridges. The inner ring is decorated with parallel lines radiating from the centre, while the outside one has six pairs of stylized and confronted dragon heads, typical of 5th century BC jades, that alternate with areas filled with etched, criss-crossing lines. The jade is translucent white with some minor surface alterations in the form of opaque white stripes. This peculiar type of ornament developed during the Eastern Zhou period in south China in areas falling within the cultural sphere of influence of the Chu state. Comparative examples in Western public collections include an ornament in the Freer/Sackler Galleries (acc. no. F1939.13) with the ‘twisted-rope’ motif on the external ring and a plain, inner ring: http://www.asia.si.edu/collections/edan/object.php?q=fsg_F1939.13 See also one from the Grenville L. Winthrop (1864-1943) collection now in the Harvard Art Museums, acc. no.1943.50.580, also published in Max Loehr and Louisa G. Fitzgerald Huber, Ancient Chinese Jades from the Grenville L.
