Lot 476 | Skulptur einer weiblichen Gottheit (Uma), Angkor Vat-Stil, Khmer, ca. 11. Jahrhundert
Estimate value
€ 9 600

A Khmer stone figure of a female goddess (Uma), Angkor Vat style, circa 11th century
The naked torso of a female deity in Angkor Vat style, facing the front, the legs parallel. The waist heavily accentuated. The left hand probably holding a lotus blossom. A long robe (sampat) with a fishtail pleat draped around the hips, falling down in fine, severely parallel folds. Finely worked borders and belt. The head, right arm and feet are missing, as is the inner surface of the left wrist. A 1 cm scratch below the right breast. Dark grey stone with a beautiful patina. On a pedestal. Height 44 cm (including pedestal 55 cm).
Most likely representing the mother goddess Uma, wife of the supreme god Shiva.
Provenance: South German private collection, acquired from a South German art dealer in the 1980s.
