Post lot text
Since the beginning of their collaboration, the Tursic & Mille duo, composed of the artists Ida Tursic (born in 1974) and Wilfried Mille (born in 1974), has been redefining our relationship to images through the medium of painting.Their artistic approach is centred around the reuse, reinterpretation and recycling of images. Seemingly chosen arbitrarily, they are often taken from popular culture, notably films, magazines and the internet, including in their most subversive forms. This transfusion from one medium to another is deliberately imperfect; the original image is reworked in paint with deliberate gaps, additions and imperfections. This visual distortion creates a disparity between the original meaning of the image and our interpretation of the work, questioning the contemporary production and circulation of images. Ida Tursic and Wilfried Mille have been the recipients of numerous awards, including the Grand Prix of the Fondation del Duca in 2020, and have been nominated for the Prix Marcel Duchamp in 2019. The duo has been exhibited at the Frac Auvergne in 2011, at the Ricard Foundation in 2017 and at the Kunst Foundation in Wendingen, Germany in 2017. They also participated in the exhibition Peindre la nuit at the Centre Pompidouin Metz in 2019.
