Post lot text
Vladimir Dubossarsky is a Russian artist born in 1964 in Moscow, where he still lives and works. In 1994, he joined forces with Alexander Vinogradov to form an internationally renowned duo until 2014. Nourished by the Hollywood ideals of mass culture, their work is above all a form of resistance: they borrow certain visual references from Socialist Realism and Pop Art in order to integrate their own utopian world into an oppressive cultural climate. Picasso, a frequent subject of their works, like many other personalities, is thus presented in light-hearted and humorous scenes of diversion. Some of their works are held in the collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow. Their work has also been the subject of numerous group exhibitions: Russia! at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, an exhibition that travelled as far as the Guggenheim Museum in New York; Russian Pop Art at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow); Expander at the Royal Academy of Arts (London); and Urgent painting at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Paris).
