Célèbre édition des Oeuvres de Voltaire publiée par Beaumarchais.
"Cette édition célèbre était la plus complète, la plus belle et la mieux ordonnée qui eût paru jusqu'alors des oeuvres de Voltaire ; on y a donné pour la première fois la volumineuse correspondance de l'auteur, ainsi que plusieurs pièces de théâtre et autres morceaux curieux qui étaient restés inédits [...] Pour que les Oeuvres de Voltaire trouvassent place dans toutes les bibliothèques et fussent accéssibles à toutes les fortunes, Beaumarchais a fait imprimer coucurremment deux éditions, l'une en 70 vol. in-8., et l'autre en 92 vol. in-12" (Brunet, V, 1353-1354).

Exemplaire en maroquin rouge strictement de l'époque, en bon état de conservation, ce qui est rarement le cas.

92 vol. in-12 (196 x 120 mm). Très nombreuses planches gravées. Reliure de l'époque : maroquin rouge, roulette dorée en encadrement des plats, dos lisse à décor doré, pièces de titres et tomaisons en maroquin vert, tranches dorées (Quelques piqures et rousseurs ; coiffes des vols. 6, 15, 25, 36, 42, 53 et 86 frottées, fragiles ou accidentées).
Provenance : Hans-Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza de Kaszon (1921-2002 - ex-libris).

Famous edition of Voltaire's works published by Beaumarchais. A strictly contemporary red morocco copy in good condition, which is rarely the case.
