Aux côtés de Yue Minjun, Fang Lijun et Liu Wei, Yang Shaobin est considéré comme l'un des grands peintres « réalistes cyniques » issus de la scène artistique de Pékin des années 1990. Ces artistes partageaient une préoccupation pour les tourments et les ironies de la vie quotidienne contemporaine, se concentrant en particulier sur le corps et la figure en tant que site de lutte et de signification. Bien que les œuvres de Yang partagent une préoccupation similaire pour le pouvoir dans ses divers abus et incarnations, son œuvre montre un engagement direct avec les résultats de la violence plutôt que le détachement ironique de ses pairs. Yang Shaobin a participé à la Biennale de Venise en 1999. Ses œuvres font aujourd'hui partie des collections du Guangdong Museum de Guangzhou, du San Francisco Museum of Modern Art et du Dongyu Museum of Fine Arts de Shenyang, entre autres.
Alongside Yue Minjun, Fang Lijun and Liu Wei, Yang Shaobin is considered one of the great “cynical realist” painters of the Beijing art scene of the 1990's. These artists shared a preoccupation with the torments and ironies of contemporary daily life, focusing in particular on the body and the figure as a site of struggle and meaning. Although Yang's artistic approach shares a similar preoccupation with power in its various abuses and incarnations, her work shows a direct engagement with the results of violence rather than the ironic detachment of his peers. Yang Shaobin participated in the Venice Biennale in 1999. Her work is now in the collections of the Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Dongyu Museum of Fine Arts in Shenyang,among others.
