Alexey Filippovich Chernyshyov (Russian: Алексей Филиппович Чернышёв) was a Russian artist of the mid-nineteenth century. He is known as a painter and graphic artist and is considered to be one of the greatest masters of genre painting in Russia of his time, a representative of academism.
Alexey Chernyshyov created genre paintings with subjects on the life of the capital officials, the urban poor, the petty provincial nobility. The peculiarity of his creative manner was in the division of the picture actors into separate groups, each of which revealed one of the sides of the plot and at the same time organically fit into the overall composition.
