Alexander Bogdanovich Willewalde
Alexander Bogdanovich (Gottfriedovich) Willewalde (Russian: Александр Богданович (Готфридович) Виллевальде) was a Russian painter of late 19th-early 20th-century German origin. He is known as a painter and graphic artist, a battle-painter and animalist, as well as the son of the famous battle-painter Bogdan (Gottfried) Willewalde.
Alexander Willewalde, as a painter, was a continuator of his father's work. He created battle and battle-genre paintings, characterized by exquisite color, dynamics, precision in the depiction of military uniforms. As an animalist, Willewalde Jr. commissioned a number of paintings with images of horses.
The master's paintings are now represented in a number of museum and private collections, including the State Hermitage (St. Petersburg) and the State Museum of Horse Breeding (Moscow), and are periodically sold at auctions.
