Charles-Philogène Tschaggeny
Charles-Filogen Tshaggeni (Chageni) is a Belgian genre painter, animal painter and marine painter associated with the era of romanticism. In 1839 he spent some time in Antwerp, where he attended the art academy. In 1840, his name as a specialist in drawing horses was already known. In 1842, Willem II, King of the Netherlands, commissioned him to draw a horse he rode during the Battle of Waterloo. Much later, in 1882, Tshaggeni painted horse paintings for Queen Marie Hendrik. In 1842 he first received a medal at the Brussels Salon. Tshaggeni was a bourgeois and very commercially active artist. His sales channels were salons at home and abroad, as well as the established art trade of the time.
