Günther (Gunter) Graßmann (Grassman) (1900 - 1993)
Günther (Gunter) Graßmann (Grassman)
Günter Grassmann is a German painter and graphic artist. From 1925 he was a freelance artist, studying in Serbia, Spain and the Netherlands. In the period from 1930 to 1937 he was a member of the exhibition group "7 Munich Artists". From 1933 until its forced dissolution in 1936 he was a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund and the Munich Secession (until it was banned in 1938). Some of Grassmann's work did not conform to the Nazi art canon, and in 1937 three of them were pointedly confiscated from public collections as part of the "Degenerate Art" campaign. In the summer of 1945, in Munich, Grassmann participated in the creation of the Professional Association of Painters-Artists. In 1946 he participated in the restoration of the Munich Secession. In the period from 1955 to 1973 he was president of the Munich Secession, later its honorary president, since 1959 he remained a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.
