Johann Baptist Lachmüller

Johann Baptist Lachmüller was a German painter and illustrator.

He is known for his signature series of lithographs depicting costumed participants in a carnival procession in Bamberg before Lent on Shrove Monday in 1837. The twenty-eight sheets depict carnival figures on horseback and in horse-drawn wagons. They are residents of Bamberg dressed as Greeks, Tatars, Chinese, Jews, and characters from the Commedia dell'Arte.
