Rosa Venneman (1825 - 1909)
Rosa Venneman
Rosa Venneman was a Belgian realistic painter from the 19th century. She came from a family of Antwerp visual artists. From the very beginning she focused on the realistic depiction of nature and in particular landscapes with cattle in a meadow. She started exhibiting after 1860. She moved to Brussels after 1870 and became the pupil of the realist painter Louis Dubois, who belonged to the Brussels artists' circle "La Chrysalide". This training was reflected in the quality of her works. She was co-founder of the Cercle des Femmes Peintres, an association of female visual artists in Brussels. Her paintings can be found in museums in Liège, Cambrai, Compiègne, Pointoise, Saintes, Soissons and Vannes. Most of her works, however, are privately owned.
