Fyodor Antonovich Bruni (Russian: Фёдор Антонович Бруни) was a 19th-century Russian artist of Italian-Swiss descent (his birth name was Fidelio). He is known as a master of portrait and historical genres, an adherent and defender of the classical canons of painting. Fyodor Bruni also worked extensively on engravings and artistic murals for churches, particularly the St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.
Fyodor Bruni has lived and worked in two countries - Russia and Italy. And everywhere his services were highly appreciated. For many years Bruni held positions of honorary rector of the St. Petersburg Academy of Art and curator of the Hermitage, the Russian Emperor in 1869 granted him the hereditary nobility. The Academies of Art in Rome and Florence granted him the title of professor emeritus.
