Johann von Schraudolph
Johann von Schraudolph was a nineteenth-century German painter. He is known as a historical and religious painter, a member of the "Union of St. Luke" (Nazarenes).
Von Schraudolph became famous for his frescoes in Speyer Cathedral, which include New Testament scenes and lives of the saints. His most important paintings, such as "Ruth and Naomi," "Christ Healing the Sick," and "The Miraculous Fishing by the Apostle Peter," are in Munich's New Pinakothek. The artist was characterized by a refined simplicity of composition, which gives the works a resemblance to the works of the old Italian masters, in particular Fra Beato Angelico. Many of his works were destroyed during World War II.
