Nathaniel Sichel
Nathaniel Sichel was a German artist of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is known as a historical and portrait painter as well as an illustrator, best known for his expressive depictions of female figures.
Sichel created several notable historical paintings, including "Philip the Magnanimous at the grave of his wife", "Joseph Interpreting Pharaoh's Dreams", and "Philip II Arresting Don Carlos". After visiting various German cities to study portrait painting, Sichel worked in Paris and then in Berlin. His best-known works from this period are female portraits in the oriental style, including "Almea".
