Paul Dubois, also known as Paul Dubois-Pigalle, was a 19th- and early 20th-century French sculptor and teacher. He is known as a master of neoclassicism. Paul Dubois also painted portraits, but he was less successful in this field. His sculptures are now in museums in France and also decorate the squares of Paris and Reims.
Paul Dubois was on his mother's side the grandson of the famous French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and, as a sign of homage to his ancestor, he signed his creations "Dubois-Pigalle" early in his career.
Dubois held an honorary position as curator of the Musée du Luxembourg and for 27 years was head of the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. For his services to France, the sculptor was repeatedly awarded the highest state honors, in particular, he won all five degrees of the Legion of Honor.




Kaspar Heinrich Merz was a Swiss draftsman and copper and steel engraver. From 1821, with the help of "a few patrons", he was "apprenticed" to the copper engraver Johann Jakob Lips in Zurich for four years. He also worked as an engraver for the magazine Historical Entertainment. Merz had also acquired a reputation for his color engravings, some of which he created over years of individual work.



Marc Louis Benjamin Vautier, called the Elder, or simply Benjamin Vautier, was a Swiss painter and representative of the anecdotal narrative genre painting of the Düsseldorf School. He settled in Düsseldorf, where he became one of the masters of the local school of genre painting. He is the father of the artist Otto Vautier and great-grandfather of the artist BEN (Benjamin Vautier).


Anselm Feuerbach was a famous 19th-century German painter, an outstanding master of the historical genre.
Anselm Feuerbach was also a skilful portrait painter, the majority of his paintings are in the style of Neoclassicism. His finest masterpieces are nowadays kept in museums in Germany, and his biography is closely linked to Italy, where the artist lived for a considerable part of his life.
