Gerhard Richter is a German visual artist. Richter has produced abstract as well as photorealistic paintings, and also photographs and glass pieces. He is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary German artists and several of his works have set record prices at auction.
Fritz Kreidt was a German painter. He was a member of the Künstlersonderbund, an association of German artists committed to realism.
Coming from university, Kreidt's early works were rather abstract, but he soon turned to a more figurative style of representation. He finally found his main subject in melancholic-looking landscape depictions - often industrial wastelands or building sites - which, although often deserted, bear witness to human labour and its transience. Since the year of German reunification in 1990, Kreidt has been concerned with industrial and urban landscapes of the former GDR.
In 2005, Kreidt went on a study trip to China, which inspired him to create the series "Chinese Landscapes". In these works, deviating from his usual technique of oil painting, he often used conté and coloured pencils, with which he rendered architectural and landscape elements in fine strokes in a manner more oriented towards graphic art.
Klaus Fußmann is a contemporary German painter. He studied from 1957 to 1961 at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and from 1962 to 1966 at the Berlin University of the Arts. From 1974 to 2005, he was a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. His work has won several awards, such as the Villa Romana prize in 1972 and the Art Award of Darmstadt in 1979. Major presentations of his work include exhibitions at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, 1972; the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt, 1982; the Kunsthalle Emden, 1988; the Kunsthalle Bremen, 1992; and the Museum Ostwall in Dortmund, 2003. In 2005 Fußmann completed a monumental ceiling painting in the Mirror Hall of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg.
Bernard Schultze was a German painter who co-founded the Quadriga group of artists along with Karl Otto Götz and two other artists.
Elger Esser is a German landscape photographer, living in Düsseldorf. "He is primarily associated with large-format images of European lowlands with his characteristic low horizon lines, pale luminous colours and vast skies".
Esser's work is held in many public collections such as the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has won the Rheinischer Kunstpreis and the Oskar Schlemmer Prize.
