Ludwig Hartmann was a German animal painter.
Hartmann studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was a member of the prestigious Munich School of Artists, which flourished during his lifetime, he was awarded medals in Vienna in 1869 and 1872.
The artist's greatest success came from his works with horses, painted in bold colors. But Hartmann specialized in depicting simple, working horses, most often at rest. In his soulful paintings, horses tired after hard work enjoy peace - in the stables or at a watering hole.
Otto Grashof was a German painter of the mid-nineteenth century. He is known as a draftsman, engraver, and portrait painter. He also did historical painting, battle-painting, animal studies, and landscape art. Grashof is considered one of the founders of Chilean painting.
Grashof went to St. Petersburg in 1838, where he carried out portrait commissions for the aristocracy, and some of his works ended up in the collection of Emperor Nicholas I. Later he visited Chile as well as Brazil. He held the titles of "painter to the Russian emperor and Brazilian court painter."
Burkhard Held is German painter living and working in Berlin, Germany. His art is based on figuration dissolving into abstraction. In 1993 he became professor at the Berlin University of the Arts and later served as a professor at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, PRC. Burkhard Held is a figurative painter, who dissolves his motifs – landscapes, portraits, flowers – into color fields with a strong tendency towards autonomy. His strongly colored all-over images reinterpret things as abstract and then lead the back into figuration. In 2009 Held started to dedicate himself to the subject of flowers: blossoms become compositions with a landscape character, and are distributed in equally strong colors across the canvas.
Christo Yavashev is a Bulgarian-born American sculptor and artist who, with his wife Jeanne-Claude de Guillebon, became famous for his work, in which he «packaged» objects ranging from a typewriter and a car to the Reichstag building and an entire seashore.
Johann Adam Klein was a German painter and engraver.
He studied the art of engraving and painting at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and painted battle scenes, carefully painting details and especially horses. Horses and animals in general are Klein's favorite subjects. George Washington is the first popularly elected president of the United States of America and one of the founding fathers of the United States.
Born into a noble family in colonial Virginia in February 1732, George Washington served as a Virginian officer with British troops during the French-Indian War (1754-1763) from 1754-1758. This was a territorial war fought largely between the colonies of Britain and France that escalated into a worldwide conflict between the two countries. J. Washington was at the center of the conflicts in the disputed Ohio River Valley area.
In June 1775, he was elected commander-in-chief of the Continental forces in the war already for independence from Great Britain. He commanded American troops throughout the war, becoming famous for his perseverance and bravery.
In 1787, J. Washington represented the state of Virginia as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention. This convention created the Constitution of the United States. In 1789, the Electoral College unanimously elected George Washington president, and in 1792 he was re-elected for a second term. Thus George Washington was in office as President of the United States from April 30, 1789 to March 4, 1797.
As head of state, he helped to strengthen the Union, implement the principles of the Constitution and build the capital of the United States. He was engaged in the formation of the central authorities and system of government, created precedents for the institution of presidents, encouraged the development of the economy, maintained friendly relations with Congress. In foreign policy Washington avoided interference in the affairs of European states.
After leaving the post of president, George Washington lived in Mount Vernon Manor.
John Frederick Herring the Elder was a British painter of Victorian England.
John had a passion for horses and painting from a young age. In his spare time from his day job as a sign painter and coachman, Herring painted horses for innkeepers and customers. Developing his talent, John specialized in drawing animals and loved to depict sporting events with horses. His impressive and vivid depictions of racehorses, cows and ducks as well as picturesque hunting scenes caught the eye of Queen Victoria. In 1845 Herring was appointed animal painter to Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent, followed by a commission from the reigning Queen Victoria, who remained a patron for the rest of his life.
A highly successful and prolific artist, Herring is considered one of the most important animal painters of mid-19th century Europe. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, and the Society of British Artists, where Herring became vice-president in 1842. Three of his sons also became artists.
Otto Dill was a German painter. His work was part of the art competitions at the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1932 Summer Olympics.
John Baldessari was an American conceptual artist known for his work featuring found photography and appropriated images. He lived and worked in Santa Monica and Venice, California.
Initially a painter, Baldessari began to incorporate texts and photography into his canvases in the mid-1960s. In 1970 he began working in printmaking, film, video, installation, sculpture and photography. He created thousands of works which demonstrate — and, in many cases, combine — the narrative potential of images and the associative power of language within the boundaries of the work of art. His art has been featured in more than 200 solo exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe. His work influenced that of Cindy Sherman, David Salle, Annette Lemieux, and Barbara Kruger among others.
