WODEHOUSE, P. G. (1881-1975). The Swoop or, Hoe Clarence Saved England. London: Alston Rivers Limited, 1909.  
First and only edition. McIlvaine A11. Small octavo. Two full-page illustrations, and in-text illustrations throughout by C. Harrison, two leaves of publisher’s ads at end (light scattered spotting and finger-soiling); original pictorial wrappers printed in orange, white and black (somewhat rubbed and soiled); housed in modern blue cloth box with design from wrapper repeated on lid. Provenance: ownership signature to half-title — loosely inserted The Swoop! Postcard with stamp.

First Edition. McIlvaine A33(a). Octavo. (Scattered spotting.) Original orange cloth, covers and spine lettered in black (extremities faintly rubbed); original dust-jacket after drawings by Frank Marston (a few chips including to spine ends with partial loss of letters, several short tears and creases). Provenance: Angus & Robertson, Sydney (bookseller’s ticket to front pastedown) — Frits Menschaar (no internal evidence of provenance).

First edition. McIlvaine A46(a). Octavo. 4 leaves of publisher’s ads at end. Original blue cloth, upper cover and spine decorated and titled in black, untrimmed (endpapers slightly browned); original pictorial dust-jacket (lightly marked, spine sunned, faint creasing and a nick to bottom edge of lower panel, 30mm split to lower flap fold).

First edition. McIlvaine under A46(a). Octavo. (Partial browning to half-title.) Original blue cloth, spine and upper cover lettered in black (spine a touch faded); original pictorial dust-jacket (upper edge and foot of spine restored, with one letter on spine in partial facsimile, one corner chipped, light creasing).

First American edition. McIlvaine A33(b). Octavo. Original mustard cloth, spine and upper cover stamped with titles and decoration in green (spine ends faintly bruised); original dust-jacket, publisher’s ads printed on verso (a few trivial nicks to edges). Provenance: Frits Menschaar (no internal evidence of provenance).

First English edition. McIlvaine B6(b). Octavo. Title with vignette and a further 37 in-text illustrations by Kerr (split in block between F8 and G1, K1 with large tear crudely repaired with tape). Original blue-green cloth, upper cover lettered in gilt, spine with green morocco label lettered and bordered in gilt (lightly cocked, spine ends a little bumped); original dust-jacket (head of spine chipped, small hole in one fold, light wear and creasing, somewhat tanned). Provenance: Frits Menschaar (no internal evidence of provenance).

Provenance: publisher’s advanced copy slips loosely inserted.

Original red boards, spine lettered in black, lower cover with publisher’s device stamped in black; original dust-jacket with illustrations by Sax (light wear to folds and edges, tiny nick at foot of spine). Provenance: W. H. Barrett (sticker to front free endpaper).
