« J’ai eu le bonheur de faire mes études de peinture dans un haut lieu d’art qu’était l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts d’Amiens. J’ai produit ce JEUNE HOMME AU CHAPEAU DE PAILLE qui en est un exemple n’est-ce pas ? Je le considère comme mon meilleur tableau et c’était l’époque où je me considérais, je peux dire que j’étais un grand peintre à cette époque-là et que malheureusement je n’égale plus cette époque là parce que j’ai eu le traumatisme de la guerre n’est-ce pas ? qui m’a séparé de la peinture. (…) Je suis devenu anarchiste, n’est pas ? et la peinture que je fais est anarchiste et surréaliste tout ce que vous voulez mais elle n’a plus cette qualité, cette poésie de cette époque-là. »

‘I was lucky enough to study painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Amiens, one of the prestigious art schools. I produced this ‘JEUNE HOMME AU CHAPEAU DE PAILLE’, which is an example from that period, isn't it? I consider it to be my best painting and at that time, I had more consideration for myself. I can say that I was a great painter back then and that unfortunately I no longer have the talent of that period because I endured the trauma of the war, didn't I? which separated me from painting. (...) I became an anarchist, didn't I? and the painting I do is anarchist and surrealist, whatever you like, but it no longer has that quality, that poetry of that period.'
