Further details
‘I am delighted to receive your very interesting illustrated letter and I thank you very much for your title, which I have adopted for my painting: "La grasse matinée". It is perfect, like some of Chirico's titles, which were actually suggested by Apollinaire. As for Yoga, it is too late, the transformation has been made and I am happy about it. I would have liked you to see it in order to better understand what I mean by "For me, this is painting. This is what intensity is". And not, as J. Lefranc always used to say: do another painting, because the qualities of the 1st time won out, because I hate repeating myself in my work. And you have to limit your selection to about thirty works. Look at Leonardo and Wermer. They each have only a few works that you can count on your fingers'. Letter to Rapin, Paris, 15 July 1959.
