Exemplaire de tête, en reliure de l'éditeur, de cette édition illustrée de 19 photogrammes originaux de Max Ernst. Il s'agit de la première édition anglaise du premier chapitre du roman de René Crevel Babylone, dans une traduction de Kay Boyle. Max Ernst en réalisa l'illustration avec la collaboration de Man Ray en utilisant la technique du frottage, qui vise à proposer un équivalent visuel à l'écriture automatique développée par les surréalistes. Les photogrammes ou clichés-verres sont obtenus en appliquant des frottages sur papier photo puis en les exposant à la lumière : les parties dessinées apparaissent ainsi en blanc sur fond noir. Les illustrations, qui évoquent les visions de mort et de désir du personnage créé par Crevel, sont accompagnées de citations du texte choisies par l'artiste : "What is death ? What is a whore ? Death is something like Cousin Cynthia". Max Ernst travailla également avec le relieur pour proposer une reliure inspirée des cartonnages romantiques du XIXe siècle. A. In-8 (177 x 116 mm). Tirage limité à 255 exemplaires, celui-ci un des 50 exemplaires de tête sur Hollande (n° 43), signé par l'auteur au faux-titre et par l'artiste sur le premier photogramme. Illustré de 19 photogrammes originaux de Max Ernst. Reliure de l'éditeur réalisée par Gonon d'après une maquette de Max Ernst : percaline anthracite, plats ornés d'un double encadrement de filets dorés autour d'une plaque dorée avec médaillon central figurant un buste de femme portant des oiseaux sur ses seins, décor rehaussé de bleu et d'orange au premier plat, dos lisse orné de filets et fers dorés, l'un figurant un couteau et une fourchette, tête dorée. Emboîtage signé D.H. Mercher.

Auctions are performed by auction houses and each of the auction houses describes their terms of auction. You can see the texts in the section "Auction information".
The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
