Superbe série de 100 lithographies d'Honoré Daumier, toutes coloriées à l'époque et rehaussées à la gomme arabique.
Robert Macaire est d'abord un personnage de théâtre, créé par le dramaturge Antier. Mais c'est bien l'interprétation de Frédérick Lemaître qui tourne un personnage sombre et verbeux en dérision, le rendant bouffon et grotesque.
Le texte fut modifié pour tenir compte de cette relecture du personnage et le succès public inattendu de la pièce permit au personnage de devenir un véritable archétype de l'escroc à la petite semaine - "le" Robert Macaire, ou même, comme ici, "les" Robert Macaire, comme autant de situations dont l'affairiste éponyme cherche à tirer profit.
Les planches de Daumier, sur un texte de Philipon, avaient été publiées dans Le Charivari entre le 20 août 1836 et 25 novembre 1838. Hazard et Delteil, n°989-1090.
In-folio (342 x 260 mm). Sans le feuillet de titre. 100 lithographies en noir par Honoré Daumier, toutes coloriées à l'époque et rehaussées à la gomme arabique, sur papier vélin, quelques-unes un peu plus courtes de marges. Toutes les planches sont montées sur onglet (quelques rousseurs et taches, la planche n°40 partiellement détachée, quelques restaurations marginales). Une seconde épreuve, elle aussi coloriée, de la planche n° 70 est montée entre les planches 39 et 40.
Demi-maroquin cerise à coins postérieur (légers frottements aux coins, aux mors et aux coiffes).

The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
