GIACOMETTI, Alberto (1901-1966) et André BRETON (1896-1966). L’Air de l’eau. Paris : Éditions “Cahiers d’Art”, 1934. Merveilleux livre, célébration poétique de l’amour d’André Breton pour Jacqueline Lamba. Illustré par Giacometti de quatre belles eaux-fortes originales de Giacometti. Splendide reliure de Leroux, exemplaire non rogné. Le 14 août 1934, André Breton épouse Jacqueline Lamba à la mairie du IXe arrondissement. Ses deux témoins sont Paul Éluard et Alberto Giacometti. Entre la fin de juin et octobre, Breton compose « quatorze séquences » pour célébrer cet amour. Giacometti se trouve de nouveau associé à lui. Il écrit au poète qui lui demande d’illustrer son court recueil de poèmes : « Je lis les poèmes qui sont pour moi tout un pays nouveau plein d’images et ta proposition me passionne trop pour ne pas essayer de faire les gravures (…) Je pense qu’il faudrait trouver des images qui, même si elles correspondent à un projet défini, puissent aussi être valables autant que possible pour l’ensemble et qui n’illustrent pas un projet trop singulier. Dans le premier cas, on n’arrive qu’à limiter l’image du poème en l’arrêtant et en la sortant de l’ensemble, seulement parce que plus immédiatement visuelle ». Les quatre gravures originales qui illustrent ce texte sont parmi les premières exécutées par Giacometti. Herbert C. Reliure signée de Georges Leroux : maroquin mosaïqué à damiers bleu et noir avec, sur chaque plat une grande forme arrondie de parchemin blanc quadrillée de filets noirs et au centre, cerclé de filets noirs un point de maroquin noir, dos lisse avec le titre en noir et bleu, doublure de parchemin et gardes de papier bleu, couverture avec le titre en noir au premier plat et dos conservés, chemise, étui. Untrimmed copy of this wonderful book, masterfully illustrated by Giacometti with 4 original etchings, in a lovely binding by Georges Leroux.

Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
