Édition originale de cette pièce représentée pour la première fois le 22 novembre 1832 à la Comédie-Française et interdite dès le lendemain. Victor Hugo intenta un procès à la Comédie-Française devant le tribunal de Commerce, arguant que la censure avait été abolie après la révolution de Juillet et que le théâtre n'avait pas à se soumettre à l'interdiction de la pièce. Il fit lui-même une déclaration au cours de l'audience, dans laquelle il prononça ces mots étrangement prophétiques : « Aujourd'hui on me fait prendre ma liberté de poète par un censeur, demain on me fera prendre ma liberté de citoyen par un gendarme ; aujourd'hui on me bannit du théâtre, demain on me bannira du pays ; aujourd'hui on me bâillonne, demain on me déportera ». L'auteur renonça à faire appel après que le tribunal se soit déclaré incompétent, et la pièce ne fut reprise qu'en 1882. Carteret, I, p. 404 ; Vicaire, col. 274-275 ; Bertin, n° 75.
In-8 (227 x 133 mm). Sans le discours de Victor Hugo publié séparément par l'éditeur que l'on trouve parfois relié après la préface. Illustré d'un frontispice gravé d'après Johannot et tiré sur Chine collé. Reliure de l'époque : bradel cartonage de papier marbré, dos lisse orné de filets dorés, pièce de titre en maroquin vert.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
