A fine cathedral binding by Kleinhans. Kleinhans was active as a binder circa 1815-50 and was the first employer of Trautz. The text is that of the 'huitième edition' (Renduel, 1832); i.e. the first complete edition with the additional Preface dated 20 October 1832 and with three new chapters. Vicaire IV. 259-60; Carteret III. 300; Ray/French 223A.

3 volumes bound in one, octavo (223 x 141mm.). Half-titles, steel engraved additional title in volume 1, and 11 plates by E. Finden, W. Finden, R. Staines and others, contemporary Parisian cathedral-style binding by Kleinhans with his name gilt-stamped on the spine, straight-grained maroon morocco gilt, single fillet borders, covers with central panel with border of gothic architectural ornament with red and green morocco onlays, spine gilt in five compartments with similar onlays, gilt edges, gilt dentelles, orange endpapers (joints and corners slightly rubbed), housed in a later morocco box by Devauchelle (upper cover of box detached, lower joint starting, rubbed), decorated in gilt and blind. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
