Second edition of a collection of Lenten sermons. These sermons, first printed at Brescia in 1497, are primarily concerned with (appropriately for Lent) various sins—including the financial sins of simony and usury, of particular interest in the transforming economic world of Renaissance Italy. Chancery octavo (148 x 100mm). 330 leaves. Woodcut angel on title (dampstaining around edges, some small repairs affecting one or two letters in a few cases, final blank rehinged). Later blind-ruled vellum with yapp edges (lacking straps, upper joint just starting, a bit stained). Provenance: some marginalia and readers marks, occasionally washed or trimmed, one note dated 1629.
