Exemplaire impeccable, l'un des 25 sur Japon impérial, avec la suite des eaux-fortes avec remarques, du premier livre entièrement illustré par Matisse, relié par Paul Bonet. L’artiste n’avait auparavant produit que quelques planches, soit pour des monographies, soit pour un ouvrage collectif. C’est à la demande de l’éditeur Albert Skira que Matisse accepta de se confronter à l’illustration d’un livre. Alors âgé de 61 ans, il y déploya librement son art, poursuivant ses propres recherches formelles (nymphes, faunes, la mer…) au gré des pages, sans jamais les assujettir au texte. Il s’efforça de créer « un trait régulier, très mince », sans ombre, qui laisse « la feuille imprimée presqu’aussi blanche qu’avant l’impression ». Cet exemplaire est le premier de cet ouvrage relié par Paul Bonet ; il dessina cette reliure à la demande de Charles Gillet. Duthuit, Henri Matisse. In-4 (325 x 245 mm). Tirage limité à 145 exemplaires numérotés, celui-ci l’un des 25 sur Japon impérial comprenant une suite avec remarques, n°19, signé par Matisse à la justification. 29 eaux-fortes originales de Henri Matisse (dont 23 hors texte et 6 vignettes). Comme annoncé à la justification, l’exemplaire comprend également une suite des 29 eaux-fortes de Matisse, tirées avec remarques sur Japon nacré. Reliure signée de Paul Bonet, datée 1941 : box orangé, plats et dos lisse ornés en damier, alternativement de motifs mosaïqués de box ivoire, gris, bleu, vert et carmin, et d’autres en filets dorés ou au palladium, doublure et gardes de daim saumon avec semis d’étoiles dorées et de points au palladium, listel de box carmin, couverture et dos conservés, tranches dorées sur témoins, chemise et étui assortis (dos de la chemise passé, étui fendu par endroits).

An attractive copy of the first book entirely illustrated by Matisse : one of the 25 on Imperial Japan paper comprising a suite of the etchings with remarks on mother-of-pearl Japan, bound by Paul Bonet. This is the first binding he did on that book.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
