Lot 113 | On his inability to assist more refugees
Estimate value
$ 2 000 – 3 000
EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Typed letter signed ("A. Einstein") to Julian Krotchner, Knollwood, Saranac Lake, N.Y., 5 July 1940.

In German. One page, 230 x 176mm.

Einstein writes of his inability to assist a refugee attempting to enter the United States. Although he was convinced that "Herr Hochermann" was deserving of assistance with immigration, Einstein confesses that his own affidavits had little influence in light of the fact that he had written so many already and some of which were now being refused. He suggests that his correspondent inquire with the National Refugee Service, but admits that they too are unlikely to be able to assist.
