Provenance

Baronne Nathaniel de Rothschild (1825-1899), Paris, likely acquired from the artist, thence by descent;
Confiscated from Henri de Rothschild (1872-1947), Abbaye des Vaux-de-Cernay, by the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg and transferred to the Jeu de Paume following the Nazi occupation of France in May 1940 (ERR no. R 446).
Recovered by the Monuments Fine Arts and Archives Section at Neuschwanstein Castle and returned to France after 13 November 1945;
Restituted to Henri de Rothschild on 3 May 1946.
