[Avec:] Mémoires de Gui Jolly, conseiller au Châtelet...ouvrage qui sert de Supplément aux Mémoires du Cardinal de Retz. [Et:] Mémoires de Madame la Duchesse de Nemours...Amsterdam : J. Frédéric Bernard, 1731 et 1738.

Bel exemplaire en reliure de l’époque, des bibliothèques Lignerolles et Robert Hoe. Comme souvent, il ajoute aux Mémoires de Retz celles de Gui Jolly et de la duchesse de Nemours. Brunet, IV, col. 1251.

Reliure uniforme de l’époque : maroquin rouge, triple filet doré en encadrement des plats, dos lisse orné, roulette dorée sur les coupes et en encadrement des contreplats, gardes de papier marbré, tranches dorées (quelques rousseurs, brunissures et mouillures ; quelques frottements aux coupes et coins, certains coins habilement restaurés, dos des quatre premiers volumes légèrement insolés).

Provenance : comte de Lignerolles (1817-1893 ; sa vente, Paris, 1894, lot n° 2912, vendu 2000 francs. Décrit comme relié par Derome le jeune) -- Robert Hoe (1839-1909 ; ex-libris, sa vente, III, lot n°2697) -- R.E. Cartier (ex-libris) -- vente Sotheby’s Londres, 10 décembre 1999, lot n°427.

A charming set, gathering as is often the case, de Retz Memoirs with Gui de Jolly’s and the Duchess de Nemours’, in uniform contemporary red morocco, from the Lignerolles and Robert Hoe collections.
