NOTE:
Xu Shiqi, a native of Yixian, Anhui province, graduated from the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts and previously studied abroad at the École des Beaux-Arts. Apart from being an educator at Nanjing Central University and Nanjing Normal University, Xu was a painter and calligrapher who was particularly skilled at flower-and-bird as well as landscape paintings.
Bei Yushao, a well-respected artist and cousin of I.M. Pei, studied under the noted twentieth century Chinese artist Wu Hufan.
