In the 1960s she represented German art in France. She had her first successes with watercolors in 1925 at the Commeter gallery in Hamburg. Until 1936 she exhibited her works in the galleries Caspari (Munich), Abels (Cologne), the Hamburger Kunsthalle, Secession 1929, at the Künstlerbund Berlin, the galleries Flechtheim (Berlin) and Arnold (Dresden) and in the rooms of the Kölnischer Kunstverein. She had the last known exhibitions before the Second World War in 1936 and 1937 as a member of GEDOK, a network of female artists, in the rooms of the Cologne Art Association. Adelaide von Block had an idiosyncratic style, painting her own portraits and landscapes from memory. Many pictures thrive on strong green, red and blue tones, which she builds up in nuanced, abstract color compositions. In order to capture people in their entirety, she did not let the sitters sit still, but got to know them on a tour of the garden and made quick sketches with charcoal.Date and place of birt: | 7 august 1896, Hamburg, Germany |
