Werner Knaupp (1936)
Werner Knaupp
Werner Knaupp is a German painter and sculptor who lives and works in Ernhofen near Nuremberg.
Knaupp studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, where he served as a professor 20 years later. Much of his work is based on his own extreme experiences of traveling and observing people.
Since 1964, Knaupp has constantly traveled through extreme landscapes (deserts, volcanoes, mountains) in the Sahara and Antarctica, New Zealand and Iceland - and we see this in the artist's black and white landscape paintings. His work includes large-format and brightly colored acrylic paintings with motifs of volcanoes, rocks and the sea. He has also worked in a psychiatric hospital and in a crematorium, where he gained the experience of illness and death for his art.
