Heinrich Ferdinand Hofmann
Heinrich Ferdinand Hofmann was a German painter of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is known as a historical painter, illustrator and teacher, especially famous for his numerous paintings of the life of Jesus Christ.
While Hofmann developed his own unique style, he drew on the traditions of the Old Masters, the Italian Renaissance, and the Nazarenes. He created religious paintings, portraits, as well as works with mythological and historical subjects. His works occupied a place of honor in German art galleries even during his lifetime.
