Karl Ferdinand Sohn
Karl Ferdinand Sohn was a German historical painter and portraitist. He studied at the Berlin Academy and in the private studio of Wilhelm von Schadow.
Karl Ferdinand Sohn was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf in 1833 and remained in that position until his death.
The beauty and roundness of the composition, the regularity and expressiveness of the drawing and the elegance of the brushwork are the great assets of Karl-Ferdinand Sohn's paintings. His colours are not particularly warm and lustrous, but they are very harmonious and give a highly plastic impression.
