Carl Johann Lasch

Carl Johann Lasch was a German painter of the second half of the 19th century. He is known as a painter who worked in portrait, historical and domestic genres.

Lasch in 1848-1857 years lived in Moscow, successfully engaged in portrait painting. Later he moved to Paris, where he created his best works. In 1860, his paintings "Tintoretto and his daughter" and "Venus and Tannhäuser" were presented at an exhibition in St. Petersburg, for which he received the honorary title of communicator of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Subsequently, Lasch moved to Düsseldorf, where he created portraits and genre paintings, which were praised by critics for their strong coloring and clever choice of subjects. In 1869 he was awarded the title of professor of painting by Emperor Wilhelm I of Germany.
