Leon Pohle
Friedrich Leon Pohle was a German painter of the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He is known as a painter, graphic artist, portraitist, genre painter and teacher.
Leon Pohle at the beginning of his career was fond of genre painting, later he began to specialize in historical painting. After becoming an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, he became known as a portrait painter, author of portraits of famous artists, scholars and royalty. Among Pohle's best-known genre works are "Gretchen in front of the Jewel Box" and "Elegy." His contribution to art was recognized with a gold medal at an exhibition of the Academy of Arts, and there is a street in Dresden named in honor of Pohle.
