Nikolai Dmitrievich Dmitriev-Orenburgsky

Nikolai Dmitrievich Dmitriev-Orenburgsky (Russian: Николай Дмитриевич Дмитриев-Оренбургский) was a Russian artist of the second half of the 19th century. He is known as a genre and battle-painter, a professor of battle-painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.

Nikolai Dmitriev-Orenburgsky is considered one of the greatest representatives of the academic direction in Russian art of his time. His works are built on a careful preparatory drawing, a clear balanced composition with a pronounced center and a restrained color scheme. He often used etching and lithography.

The master created a series of battle scenes at the imperial court, took part in the decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, and painted for illustrated publications. He was one of the founding members of the St. Petersburg Society of Artists.
