Otto Knille
Otto Knille was a German painter of the second half of the 19th century. He is known as a historical painter, a representative of the Düsseldorf School.
Knille from 1865 lived in Berlin, where he created historical paintings commissioned by the Prussian government. Famous is his series of five panels "The Challenge of Struggle" about Prussia's victory in the Franco-Prussian War. He also tackled mythological and heroic subjects, including the painting Tannhäuser and Venus.
Knille was a professor at the Prussian Academy of Fine Arts from 1877 and one of the founders of the Malkasten artists' association.
