Elisabeth Büchsel, full name Elisabeth Charlotte Helene Emilie Büchsel, was a German artist. She studied painting in Berlin, Dresden, Paris and Munich.
Elisabeth Büchsel painted mainly portraits and landscapes of Rügen and Stralsund. From 1904 she lived and worked on the island of Hiddensee from spring to autumn.
Büchsel was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of Germany.


Karl Caspar was a German painter and graphic artist.
Caspar studied at the Art Academy in Stuttgart and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1904 he became a member of the Stuttgart Artists' Union (Stuttgarter Künstlerbund), in 1906 he joined the German Artists' Union (Deutscher Künstlerbund). In 1913 he became one of the founders of the New Munich Secession, becoming its chairman in 1919.
Karl Caspar's creative field was painting and drawing with Impressionist and Expressionist influences in various genres, from Christian subjects to the nude genre.
From 1922 to 1937, Karl Caspar was professor and then president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1937, his works were exhibited at the Exhibition of Degenerate Art organized by the Nazis in Munich, but many of them were then withdrawn from German museums and state collections and destroyed. After the end of World War II, Karl Caspar returned to teaching: in 1948 he became one of the founders of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1955 he became an academician of the Berlin Academy of Arts. He participated in the Venice Biennale and was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1950.


Maria Caspar-Filser was a German painter. She lived and worked mainly in Munich.
In 1913, she was the only woman among the founding members of the artists' association Münchener Neue Secession. In 1925 she became the first German woman painter to be awarded the title of professor. She taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
Caspar-Filser primarily painted flowers, gardens and landscapes, influenced equally by Impressionism and Expressionism.
The Nazis considered Caspar-Filser's paintings "degenerate".


Jean-Joseph Crotti was a Swiss and French graphic artist and avant-garde painter.
Crotti studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts, then at the Académie Julian in Paris. He went from Impressionism to Fauvism, then he became interested in Art Nouveau, Cubism and finally Dadaism. With the outbreak of World War I, Crotti left New York, where he formed close friendships with Marcel Duchamp and Francis Picabia. In 1916, he returned to France. In the late 1930s, Crotti began using a new technique in glass painting called Gemmail.


Alfred Kubin was an outstanding Austrian engraver, illustrator and writer, and a prominent representative of the Symbolic and Expressionist trends in the visual arts in the first half of the 20th century. Alfred Kubin's works are full of phantasmagoric and grotesque depictions of dreams, motifs of desolation and fear.


William Reid Dick was a Scottish sculptor known for his innovative stylisation of form in his monument sculptures and simplicity in his portraits. He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1921, and a Royal Academician in 1928. Dick served as president of the Royal Society of British Sculptors from 1933 to 1938. He was knighted by King George V in 1935. He was Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland to King George VI from 1938 to 1952 then held the post under Queen Elizabeth until his death in 1961.


Wilhelm Heinrich Ernst Eitner was a German painter of the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries. He is known as an impressionist painter and teacher.
Eitner produced portraits, landscapes, and woodcuts in a style reminiscent of Japanese art. Despite initial rejection in German society of his impressionist style of painting, over the years he gained recognition and even the title "Claude Monet of the North." Eitner was a member of numerous art associations. His works are preserved in the Hamburg Kunsthalle.


Erich Heckel was a German painter and printmaker, and a founding member of the group Die Brücke ("The Bridge") which existed 1905–1913. His work was part of the art competitions at the 1928 Summer Olympics and the 1932 Summer Olympics.


Auguste Herbin was a French painter, celebrated for his contributions to modern art, particularly within the realms of Cubism and abstract painting. Born on April 29, 1882, in Quiévy, Nord, France, Herbin's artistic journey took a significant turn after he moved to Paris in 1903. Initially influenced by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, his style evolved significantly after 1909 when he became acquainted with Cubism, a movement that significantly influenced his work thereafter. Rockwell Kent is an American artist, illustrator, and writer. He was born and raised in New York City and began his art career in the early 1920s.
Kent worked in a variety of genres and styles, including realism, expressionism, and cubism. Kent became known for his book illustrations as well as his paintings and prints. His work was frequently published in Harper's Weekly, The New York Times, and Vanity Fair magazines and newspapers.
He also illustrated many books, including famous works by Ernest Hemingway and Herman Melville. Kent was also an activist and political activist. He was an advocate of socialist ideals and participated in political movements. In addition, he was a traveler and explorer, having made several trips to Alaska and other far northern territories.
Kent was also a writer and author of several books, including the autobiographical novel It's Me, O Lord! and a book about his travels. Kent's style was recognizable and original, and he was known for his powerful compositions, bright colors, and pronounced contours. His work remained popular even after his death in 1971, and many can be seen in museums and art galleries around the world.

Jean Lehmann was a Swiss painter, graphic artist and sculptor.
Jean graduated from the Lucerne School of Applied Arts, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Lehmann worked at the Glacier Gardens in Lucerne and as a guide in mountain hotels, so many of his paintings are mountain snow-covered landscapes. The artist was particularly fond of painting rustic landscapes, rural scenes of quiet life, and he also created portraits and still lifes in a wide variety of techniques. He also painted a series of watercolors and chalk drawings of Swiss traditional costumes.
Lehmann also worked in the advertising business, creating posters for sporting events and travel companies.


August Lüdecke-Cleve was a German animal and landscape painter.
August studied at the Düsseldorf and Munich Academies of Fine Arts. He painted mainly peaceful Rhine landscapes, often with grazing herds.

Ingeborg Plockross Irminger was a Danish artist who is remembered both for her sculptures and for the miniature porcelain statues of animals and human figures she designed while working for Bing & Grøndahl. A bronze cast of her 1903 bust of the writer Herman Bang was installed on Sankt Annæ Plads in Copenhagen in 2012.


Emil Preetorius was a German illustrator, graphic artist, book designer and art collector. He is also considered one of the most important stage designers of the first half of the 20th century. In 1909, together with Paul Renner, he founded the Schule für Illustration und Buchgewerbe (School for Illustration and Book Design) in Munich, headed the Munich training workshops from 1910, and in 1926 became head of a class for illustration as well as a class for stage design at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Academy of Fine Arts) in Munich, where he was a professor from 1928. In 1914, together with Franz Paul Glaß, Friedrich Heubner, Carl Moos, Max Schwarzer, Valentin Zietara, Preetorius founded the artists' association "Die Sechs" (The Six), one of the first groups of artists for the marketing of advertising commissions, especially posters.
Preetorius created illustrations for numerous works of fiction from 1908 onwards. In 1932 he became scenic director of the Bayreuth Festival. Richard Scheibe was a German artist primarily remembered as a sculptor. He trained as a painter, and taught himself to sculpt beginning in 1906. From 1925-1933 he taught at the Städelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt am Main. He was dismissed from teaching when the Nazis seized power but was reinstated in 1934. He received various recognitions during the Third Reich, including the Goethe-Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft and placement on the Gottbegnadeten list. After World War II he continued to sculpt, including a figurative piece for the Memorial to the German Resistance. His work was also part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1928 Summer Olympics.

Julius Seyler is a German artist and athlete, the first double European speed skating champion.
He received his art education at the Munich Academy. For several years Julius Seyler lived in the USA and created many paintings depicting the life and history of the Montana Indians, which made him famous.


Rudolf Sieck was a German landscape painter and illustrator.
He studied at the Munich School of Applied Arts, making landscape and architectural drawings. Sieck collaborated with the magazine "Jugend", and also illustrated editions of works by Guy de Maupassant, Emile Zola and other classics. In 1906 Rudolf Sieck worked as a designer for the Nymphenburg porcelain factory, and in 1913 he moved to Pinswang near Prin and became a member of the Die Welle artists' association. Here numerous landscape paintings were created, mostly in a colorful graphic style.
Rudolf Sieck was a member of the Association of German Artists, a member of the New Munich Secession from 1914 and participated in the exhibitions of the Glass Palace. From 1937 to 1941, some of Sieck's landscape paintings were purchased by the highest members of the German government at art exhibitions in Munich.


Edward Steichen was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter, and curator, renowned as one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of photography.
Steichen was credited with transforming photography into an art form. His photographs appeared in Alfred Stieglitz's groundbreaking magazine Camera Work more often than anyone else during its publication run from 1903 to 1917. Stieglitz hailed him as "the greatest photographer that ever lived".


Jacques Villon, birth name Gaston Duchamp, was a French painter and printmaker. In 1907 he changed his name to Jacques Villon. He was the brother of artists Marcel Duchamp and Raymond Duchamp-Villon.

Gretchen Wohlwill was a painter and member of the Hamburg Secession. She was one of the German students at the Académie Matisse in Paris and developed a painting style influenced by French avant-garde art. In addition to painting, graphics were a focus of her work. Persecuted by the National Socialists because of her Jewish background, she emigrated to Portugal in 1940. After twelve years in exile, she returned to Hamburg in 1952.
