Lot 90 | Apologizing to a creditor
Estimate value
$ 1 000 – 1 500
In French. Four pages, 173 x 133mm, bifolium (mild dustsoiling along folds, corners neatly excised, small mounting remnants on verso).
Proust writes a hurried note to a creditor, apologizing for the delay in responding "all the more because you must believe me a liar," and sending along a letter from his bank [not present] showing that the transfer of 300 francs had been initiated. He then endeavors to ensure that his correspondent receives the funds as soon as possible: "rite me quickly a short note to tell me where I can send the 300 francs, for I am sick with worry."
