Further details
‘Thank you very much for your kind letter from the 21st of May, which suggested that I produce a composition that would bring together in a single painting – measuring 90 cm long by 60 cm wide - seven of the most iconic subjects of my genre, which could be brought together. I am currently working on it and, as you fortunately suggested, I have copied at the bottom a dedication by Breton, taken from his book "L'amour fou" of 1945, which was forgotten among those in Pauvert's book, and which fits in perfectly with this painting. And a photo of it should be taken. Here it is: "To Clovis Trouille, the great master of the ceremonies where everything is allowed, very affectionately, André Breton". This work has been initiated. I am working on what you suggested, in memory of Breton. I am working on a composition with a non-conformist presentation yet in agreement with him. When he came to lunch at home, with his wife Elisa, he claimed that there is no masterpiece without an aggressive character. And when he stared at ‘Le Baiser du confesseur’, I asked him if he did not think it was a bit too English Pre-Raphaelite in terms of style. He replied, “it is better than that".’ Letter to Lo Duca, 28 of May and 1st of July of 1970.
