Further details
‘I lost a little girl I adored [Rachel] when she was just thirteen, and I have not been able to get over it. So this painting represents a poet - in this case it could be me - standing by his daughter's coffin... It is a kind of Ophelia that I painted. So I don't know, perhaps by some form of complicity, she is therefore looking for white flowers to lay on her daughter's grave. And I painted it with that feeling, without asking myself if it was right, or if it was fair. It was a fleeting moment, and it was with a natural instinct that I painted that painting, without really explaining it to myself'.
