Édition originale de la première oeuvre personnelle de Diderot. Publié anonymement, ce recueil de 62 aphorismes porte sur la religion : encore déiste, Diderot critique les dévots et leur fanatisme, avant d'expliquer trois positions philosophiques quant à l'existence de Dieu (l'athéisme, le scepticisme et le déisme). L'ouvrage fut naturellement condamné au feu par le Parlement de Paris dans un arrêt du 7 juillet 1746. Il fut réédité en 1757 sous le titre Étrennes aux Esprits forts. Tchemerzine, II, 918-919 ; Adams, PD3.
Exemplaire en reliure de l'époque, aux armes de l'arrière-petite fille de Colbert, Marie-Sophie Colbert de Seignelay. Le volume fit ensuite partie de la bibliothèque d'Arthur Brölemann, président du Tribunal de commerce de Lyon.
In-12 (147 x 86 mm). Manque le frontispice. Troisième tirage, avec la pagination irrégulière signalée par Adams : pp. 33-32-34 et 43-45-44-46 (Tchemerzine l'attribue par erreur au premier tirage). Reliure de l'époque : veau marbré aux armes de Marie-Sophie Colbert de Seignelay (OHR, 829), triple encadrement de filets dorés et fleurons en écoinçons, dos à nerfs orné de compartiments dorés avec lions couronnés et couleuvres en alternance sur chaque caisson, pièce de titre en maroquin rouge, tranches rouges. After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
