The present sheets bear a collector's stamp in red ink, the so-called 'Andrieu stamp' (Lugt no. 838). This refers to the painter Pierre Andrieu (1821-1892), a pupil and loyal collaborator of Eugene Delacroix. Among other things, the latter bequeathed him his original drawings for the Salon de la Paix in the Hôtel de Ville and the sketches for the chapel in the church of St Sulpice.
Andrieu keeps this inheritance for the rest of his life and buys further drawings by his master at the auction of Delacroix's collection and studios in February 1864.
After Andrieu's death, his heirs had a "Marque de collection" (Lugt no. 838) affixed to both Andrieu's and Delacroix's drawings. This mark, which can be seen on the present flower studies, is very similar to the mark on the Delacroix drawings sold in 1864 (Lugt. no. 838a). There are only slight differences in the colour and the shape of the letters.
The Andrieu studio sale took place in Paris on 6th and 7th May, 1892: The catalogue seems to mention only the paintings; the drawings by Delacroix or Andrieu are not listed, unless they are mixed in with the paintings.
