Le Bienfaicteur. Comédie en prose & en un acte. 1767.

Précieux manuscrit de dédicace, élégamment calligraphié et orné, dans une riche reliure aux armes de Louis III Phélypeaux, comte de Saint-Florentin. Après une carrière militaire dans le corps des mousquetaires, puis dans la cavalerie, le chevalier d’Arcq débute une vie d’écriture, mais aussi mondaine et fastueuse. Il organise notamment une fête le 3 août 1767, décrite dans les Mémoires secrets, dont les participants ont pu goûter à “une Lotterie, une Lanterne Magique, des Jeux de Gobelets, & tous les petits amusemens qui peuvent précéder un grand & magnifique souper”, un opéra-comique, et enfin, être éblouis par rien de moins que “tout le feu du ciel, concentré dans un feu d'artifice très-chaud, très-rapide, terminé par une illumination charmante, qu'a remplacé le jour auquel tout le monde s'est retiré”. Cette fête était dédiée à Marie-Madeleine de Cusacque, comtesse de Langeac, protectrice et maîtresse du chevalier, tout autant, à l’époque, que du comte de Saint-Florentin - un triangle galant qui se devine ainsi au fil des pages de ce manuscrit, offert par le chevalier au comte...

Manuscrit in-4 (286 x 231 mm), sur papier, de 70 pages dont le titre. Texte en français, calligraphié à l’encre. Page de titre avec riche encadrement au lavis gris, bandeau héraldique aux armes du dédicataire réalisé au lavis à la page 1. Toutes les pages de texte présentent un double encadrement à l’encre verte. Reliure de l’époque : maroquin rouge, armes de Louis Phélypeaux au centre des plats (OHR, pl. 2268), riche dentelle d'encadrement aux petits fers, intégrant les meubles des armes des Mailly et des Phélypeaux (maillets et hermines), dos à nerfs et caissons ornés aux petits fers, pièce de titre de maroquin fauve, double filet doré sur les coupes, gardes de tabis bleu, tranches dorées (quelques frottements aux coupes et coins, petit manque à la pièce de titre).

A most precious manuscript, bound for and presented to Louis III Phélypeaux, comte de Saint-Florentin. The manuscript went from one prestigious library to another: Guyot de Villeneuve, Alfred Werlé, Edouard Rahir, Mortimer Schiff and Jaime Ortiz-Patino.

Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
