Wilhelm Sohn
Johann Wilhelm August Sohn was a German painter of the second half of the 19th century. He is known as a historical, genre and portrait painter, teacher, representative of the Düsseldorf school.
Wilhelm Sohn created historical paintings at the beginning of his career, but then turned to genre painting. He produced several notable works in this genre, including "Life's Various Roads," "A Question of Conscience," and "At a Meeting with a Lawyer." Sohn not only copied costumes from old paintings and "put" them on his characters, he also studied historical settings and created accurate illustrations of different periods of ancient life. The master was the nephew, pupil and then son-in-law of the painter Karl Ferdinand Sohn.
